As you all know, I have a small…ok large obsession with buttons. I love their versatility in projects like my button bib necklace or the framed button letters I made for my nieces. This time around I made myself a button ribbon bracelet with white buttons and purple ribbon.
There seems to be this popular image of a button bracelet floating around Pinterest for months, but I have yet to find a tutorial for it in English. Such a cute brown and pink bracelet, I just had to try to recreate it!
To start off, I dug through my button stash and decided that I wanted to use white buttons on my bracelet. Look at all those beautiful buttons!
Sorting through them, I was able to find 24 buttons of approximately the same size and shade of color. For this bracelet it is important that all the buttons are the same size since they are tied so tight together in straight lines.
To start your bracelet, tie a knot at the end of your embroidery thread. Enter through the backside of your first button. Next, go through the front side of your second button. Repeat through the same holes to double up the thickness of your thread. Now wrap your thread twice around the middle section between the two buttons.
Enter into the opposite hole on your second button from the backside to prepare for the third button to be added. Repeat this process with half of your buttons so that you end up with one long strand of connected buttons.
When you reach the end of your strand, enter through the backside of your last button into one of the side holes, to start the second side strand. That sounds confusing, but I think this picture helps it make sense:
Build your second side of the bracelet making sure to attach each button horizontally and vertical to the other buttons around it. Once completed, tie it off on the backside and cut off any remaining embroidery thread.
Lastly, cut a piece of ribbon long enough to thread through the buttons while leaving room to tie it. I highly recommend using a flame to melt the ends of the ribbon to prevent it from unraveling once cut.
Tie it on and your are done
